Born in Oviedo, Spain, he did his residency training in the Hospital Central de Asturias, and then a Fellowship in Shoulder and Elbow Surgery at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, USA.

Chairman of the upper Limb Unit and Associate Professor at La Paz University Hospital in Madrid. Chairman of the Research Committee  of SECEC.  Past- president of the Spanish Society of Shoulder and Elbow Surgery. Associate Editor of The Journal of Shoulder and Elbow Surgery.

Claudio ASCANI

Claudio Ascani is a Chairman of Advanced Prosthetic Surgery Unit of the Center of Traumatologic and Orthopaedic Hospital CTO of Rome. Orthopedic Surgeon, specialised in shoulder and elbow surgery. He did his shoulder fellowship with Gilles Walch in Lyon in 1998. Member of the European Society of Shoulder and Elbow Surgery (SECEC) since 2002. Since 2008 he is the chair of the Training Center for Shoulder and Elbow Arthroplasty in the teaching Hospital CTO in Rome. Teaching Professor at “Tor Vergata” University of Rome for Residency Program in Orthopaedic and Traumatology.

I am a consultant in Shoulder and Elbow Surgery in Hospital Universitario La Paz and a private practice in Clinica DKF in Madrid, Spain. I am the current president of our National Shoulder and Elbow Society (SECHC) and have been past chair of the ESSKA elbow and forearm group.

I am involved in education as chairman of IACES (Intenational advanced course on elbow surgery) and the live surgery shoulder course BIASS (Barcelona International Artrho Shoulder Surgery), through my research and publications in books and journals and with participation on courses with different medical devices companies.

Sports injuries, shoulder and knee surgery-  Clinique des Cèdres / University Hospital Grenoble Alpes –Grenoble, France

He is an orthopedic surgeon working in the Grenoble area (Capital of the French Alps). He is Associate Professor in the University Hospital of Grenoble Alpes and has a private practice in Clinique des Cèdres. His main clinical interests are knee and shoulder arthroscopy with an emphasis on sports injuries. Since 2023, he became Associate Professor in the University Hospital of Grenoble Alpe to teach shoulder pathologies and related surgeries.

He has published several articles in peer-reviewed journals and numbers of book chapters.

Joris BECKERS

Dr. Joris Beckers is a shoulder surgeon in Bruges, Belgium.
He has finished his residency in Belgium in 2020 and subsequently improved his knowledge and skills through fellowships in Annecy and Lyon, under the guidance of mentors such as Dr. Laurent Lafosse and Dr. Thibault Lafosse and Dr. Arnaud Godenèche.
He joined the Orthoclinic team in Bruges in 2021 and focuses on shoulder traumatology, expert arthroscopy and shoulder arthroplasty.

Pieter CAEKEBEKE is a Consultant Orthopedic Surgeon, specialised in elbow surgery, at the teaching Hospital Ziekenhuis Oost-Limburg in Genk (Belgium). After studying Medicine at the University in Leuven, he did a fellowship Elbow surgery in Antwerp with Roger van Riet and a Hand surgery fellowship in Sydney. In 2022 he defended his PhD-thesis on distal biceps tendon pathology, for which he was awarded the Norbert GSchwend prize of the European Society of Shoulder and Elbow Surgery (SECEC). He is a board member of the Belgian Shoulder and Elbow Society (Belss).

Anke Claes is a physiotherapist working as a teaching and research assistant at the University of Antwerp. Her PhD project focuses on possible influencing factors during the rehabilitation after shoulder arthroplasty, the FINOSA study. Two years ago she started including shoulder arthroplasty patients at AZ Monica. Her promotors are Prof. Dr. Verborgt, Prof. Dr. Struyf and Prof. Dr. Baert.

Dr. Mathias Colman is a shoulder surgeon at the Europe Hospitals in Brussels, Belgium. After his specialization in orthopedic surgery and traumatology at the University of Brussels, he completed a fellowship with Dr Hans Van der Bracht in Ghent, Belgium.  

Dr. Mathias Colman is a board member of the Belgian Society of Shoulder and Elbow Surgery (BELSS).  

Ann COOLS

Ann Cools is a physiotherapist, working as a professor at the Department of Rehabilitation Sciences at the Ghent University, Belgium. Her topic of research and teaching expertise, as well as her clinical work is shoulder rehabilitation in general, and sport specific approach and guidelines for exercise prescription in particular. She finished her PhD in 2003, debating scapular involvement in sports related shoulder pain in the overhead athlete, and she has published more than 150 papers in peer-reviewed international journals, wrote contributions and chapters in several international recognized books, and gives several courses on a national and international level. She was head of the Physical Therapy Education at the Ghent University 2008-2016, founding member and president of the European Society of Shoulder and Elbow Rehabilitation (EUSSER) 2008-2012, and founding member and board member of the Flemish Shoulder Network 2016-2022.

Olivier Dhollander

Olivier DHOLLANDER is a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon, specialized in elbow and shoulder surgery at the University Hospital Brussels (Belgium).

After studying Medicine at the University of Antwerp and Orthopaedic Surgery at the University of Louvain, he further specialized during different national and international elbow and shoulder fellowships with Pascal Boileau (Nice, France), Bo Olsen (Copenhagen, Denmark), Roger van Riet and Olivier Verborgt (Antwerp, Belgium).

His interests include the conservative and surgical management of sports injuries, instabilities and degenerative disorders of the elbow and the shoulder.

Prof. Bernhard Jost has been Head of the Department of Orthopaedics and Traumatology and Head of the Shoulder and Elbow Unit at Kantonsspital St.Gallen since 2011. He has been a member of the Executive Board of Kantonsspital St.Gallen since 2020 and the Geriatric Clinic St.Gallen AG since 2023.Prof. Bernhard Jost is a renowned surgeon specialized in the whole field of shoulder and elbow surgery.

From 2014 – 2020, Prof. Bernhard Jost was a board member in the presidential line of the Swiss Orthopaedic and Trauma Society “swiss orthopaedics” and was President from 2016 – 2018. He is actively engaged as a member of the Expert Group Shoulder and Elbow, Traumatology, Education Commission and Board Exam Commission.

As an ordinary member of the SECEC, he was also a member of the Executive Committee (Chairman of the Membership and Website Committee). Furthermore,
Prof. Jost is a corresponding member of the American Society for Shoulder and Elbow Surgery and an international deputy editor of JBJS.

Val JONES

Val Jones is Lead Physiotherapist working at the Sheffield Shoulder and Elbow Unit at the Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust also works in private practice. She lectures nationally and internationally about the assessment and rehabilitation of the elbow joint. Val is active in clinical and basic research about elbow pathology with multiple peer publications. She is the current President  of EUSSER (European Society for Shoulder & Elbow Rehabilitation) and is a previous AHP representative on the British Elbow and Shoulder Society Council, Previously she has organised and presented upon the highly successful Sheffield Elbow course for Physiotherapists and was awarded the prestigious Copeland Fellowship from the British Elbow and Shoulder Society, travelling to Cape Town.

Jean KANY

Dr. Jean Kany is a French orthopedic surgeon, Shoulder unit at Clinique de l’Union, Toulouse. He is the author of more than 80 international publications and books. He has been an expert and faculty member for high profile shoulder congress. Dr Kany is member of French orthopedic society, European Shoulder and Elbow surgery and French arthroscopic society. He is the past-President of the French Shoulder and Elbow Surgery (SoFEC) from 2021 to 2023.

Anne KARELSE

Dr Anne Karelse studeerde geneeskunde aan de Universiteit van Antwerpen en startte nadien de opleiding tot orthopedisch chirurg en traumatoloog in het UZ Gent. Na de algemene opleiding specialiseerde zij zich verder in de behandeling van schouder- en elleboogpathologie bij Prof. Lieven De Wilde in UZ Gent, Dr. Joe Debeer in Kaapstad, Zuid-Afrika en Dr. Copeland en Dr. Levy in Reading, Verenigd Koninkrijk. Sinds 2006 is zij werkzaam in het UZ Gent en in het Zorgsaam Ziekenhuis in Terneuzen, Nederland. Ze behaalde in 2015 haar PhD met als onderwerp ‘Shoulder Arthroplasty: glenoid worries’

Gert-Jan OPSOMER

Gert-Jan Opsomer graduated as an orthopedic surgeon in 2022 at the University of Ghent (Belgium). He completed a dedicated, one-year fellowship in shoulder surgery at ORTHOKLINIEK Bruges and at ORTHOCA Antwerp.

Since 2023 Gert-Jan Opsomer has been working as a shoulder surgeon at ZOL Genk-Maaseik. Additionally he’s a clinical consultant at Ghent University Hospital.

Dirk PETRE

Dr. Petré graduated as a doctor from the University of Antwerp in 1992 and completed his orthopaedic training in in 1998. Then he undertook sub-specialty fellowships in shoulder surgery at the Beaumont Hospital in Dublin, the Monica Hospital in Antwerp and the Cape Shoulder Institute in Cape Town. In addition he visited shoulder services in San Antiono, Zurich, Stockholm, Münster, Amsterdam, Salzburg, Bern, Milan, London Ontario and Nottingham. He is a member of various international societies (e.g.European Society of Sports Traumatology, Knee Surgery and Arthroscopy; International Society of Arthroscopy, Knee Surgery and Orthopaedic Sports Medicine; European Society for Surgery of the Shoulder and the Elbow). Today he is consultant in the department of Shoulder and Elbow Surgery at the Sint-Jozefkliniek in Izegem, Belgium. His surgical interests include the management of sports injuries, rotator cuff disorders, shoulder instability, degenerative shoulder disorders and failed shoulder arthroplasty.

Dr Philippe Schiepers is shoulder surgeon in Delta Hospital and Bosi (Brussels Orthopedic and Sport Institute) in Brussels. 

He is president of the GES (Groupe Epaule de la Sorbcot) and Belss member. He’s also active member of the SFA (Société Francophone d’Arthroscopie).

Michel van den Bekerom is an orthopedic surgeon and has specialized in shoulder and elbow pathology.
He works in the Jan van Goyen Clinic and in the shoulder and elbow expertise center at the OLVG in Amsterdam. This is a SECEC teaching center. He also has an appointment as professor of sports traumatology of the upper extremity at the VU Amsterdam.

Dr. Antoon Van Raebroeckx studied medicine at the KU Leuven. In 2004 he obtained his license as orthopaedic surgeon. He specialised in shoulder surgery in Annecy with Dr Lafosse and Dr Toussaint from 2004 to 2005. He worked for 15 years as a shoulder specialist in Bonheiden and in 2011 he founded the “Shoulder training & research centre” in Mechelen for coaching of athletes. Since then, he has been a board member of the Belss, Belgian Elbow & Shoulder Society, of which he became president in 2018. He is an active member of the BVOT (Belgian Society for Orthopaedics and Traumatology ), Secec/Essse (European Society for Surgery of the Shoulder and the Elbow) and Esska/Esa (European Shoulder Association). Since 2020, he is also member of the Educational Committee of Esa. He is closely involved in the training of national and international shoulder surgeons and continues to specialize through the Shoulder Center in the preventive and non-operative treatment of the “athlete’s” shoulder.

Prof. dr. Roger van Riet is een wereldberoemd elleboogchirurg. Hij is een pionier in arthroscopische chirurgie van de elleboog en heeft elleboogblessures behandeld bij vele internationale atleten, waaronder Olympische en wereldkampioenen. Hij staat bekend om de ontwikkeling van zijn techniek om de instabiele elleboog te herstellen en te reconstrueren en om peesreparaties rond de elleboog uit te voeren.

Adam specialises in arthroscopic surgery of the elbow, sports injuries, joint replacement and trauma reconstruction surgery. He treats common conditions such as Tennis and Golfer’s elbow through to complex tertiary referral cases from other surgeons.  He is Clinical Director for Research at Wrightington Wigan and Leigh Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

Prof. Dr Karl Wieser is an elbow and shoulder specialist and head of the shoulder and elbow surgery Section at University Hospital Balgrist.

Thanks to their own basic research and studies, the team led by Prof. Dr Karl Wieser offers highly specialized expertise in shoulder and elbow joint surgery for patients of all ages. The team of experts is frequently called upon in cases of acute complex joint damage caused by accidents or in the case of defective results of previous surgeries (revision operations). In particular, athletes in recreational and professional sports seek and find competent help from Prof. Dr Wieser and his team.
